THE PRETTYFOLD STORY

Our Scottish Straight Story

Scottish Straights are an integral part of PrettyFold’s Scottish program, which Yelena began in 2019. Her initial interest in Scottish Folds grew into an appreciation of both folded-ear and straight-ear cats.

Our Straights share the long coats, expressive eyes and varied colors that Yelena values in her Scottish lines. Their upright ears give them a different expression while retaining the familiar rounded Scottish appearance.

At PrettyFold, straight-eared kittens receive the same attention, home upbringing and preparation for family life as their folded-ear companions. We encourage buyers to get to know each kitten rather than choose by ear type alone.

LOOKS & COAT

Scottish Straight Looks & Coat

Scottish Straights have upright ears that frame their rounded faces. PrettyFold’s current Scottish program focuses on longhaired cats, combining this open-eared expression with soft, flowing coats.

Our Scottish lines include a variety of colors and white patterns, from blue and white and red and white to tortoiseshell and calico. The colors and markings available in straight-eared kittens depend on the individual litter.

A Scottish Straight is not a British Shorthair: our Straights belong to the Scottish program and have their own profiles and family backgrounds. Check each kitten’s listing for confirmed coat and color details.

LIFE WITH THIS BREED

Life with a Scottish Straight

Yelena does not observe a consistent temperament difference between her Scottish Straights and Scottish Folds. Across her Scottish cats, she describes affectionate behavior, interactive play and an interest in following people through their daily routines.

Some seek a lap as soon as someone sits down; others prefer to stay close or start a game. Ear type does not tell us which kitten will be quieter, more playful or more comfortable being held.

A Scottish Straight may suit someone drawn to PrettyFold’s longhaired Scottish cats who prefers upright ears. We will discuss your routine, grooming expectations and the individual kitten’s behavior to help you make a considered choice.

RAISED AT HOME

Growing Up at PrettyFold

Our kittens are raised at home with close attention to their daily development. In their early weeks, they stay with their mother while Yelena checks their progress, weighs them and gently handles them.

As they grow and become more mobile, they spend increasing time around the family, experiencing everyday household activity, play and familiar sounds such as the television and vacuum cleaner.

We introduce new experiences gradually and respect each kitten’s pace. Before they leave, we share guidance to help their new family continue that transition at home.

CARE & HEALTH

Caring for Your Scottish Straight

Your Scottish Straight needs regular coat care, play, appropriate nutrition and routine veterinary attention. Understanding their individual background and available parent test results is more useful than assuming that upright ears guarantee freedom from health problems.

Coat & Everyday Care

Gently comb the coat on a regular basis, checking areas where friction can cause tangles, including behind the ears, under the legs and around the hindquarters. Increase attention when shedding or when your cat’s coat needs it.

Keep sessions short and comfortable, and introduce grooming gradually. Our Kitten Care Guide explains the essentials for preparing your home and building a consistent care routine.

Genetic Testing & Health Information

A cat confirmed to have no copies of the Fold-associated TRPV4 variant does not carry that tested variant. This distinction is important when comparing Scottish Straights and Scottish Folds, but it does not mean a cat can never develop arthritis or another health condition.

We genetically test our breeding cats and provides parent test copies with Scottish kittens. Ask about the reports relevant to your kitten and discuss routine care with your veterinarian.

Which PrettyFold Cat Is Right for You?

Scottish Straight and Scottish Fold cats are part of the same PrettyFold Scottish program. Both can share the longhaired appearance and affectionate behaviors Yelena enjoys, but their ears and Fold-associated genetic considerations differ.

Explore the Scottish Fold page to understand those differences. If you prefer a shorter, denser plush coat, our British Shorthair page introduces another side of PrettyFold.

There is no need to choose on appearance alone. Tell us what matters most to you—grooming, interaction, household routine or other considerations—and we can discuss the individual kittens and upcoming litters.

QUESTIONS & EXPERIENCES

Scottish Straight Questions, Answered

Is a Scottish Straight the same as a British Shorthair?

No. PrettyFold’s Scottish Straights belong to our Scottish program, while our British Shorthairs are a separate breeding program. Our current Scottish cats are longhaired, whereas our British Shorthairs have dense, short coats. Explore both pages to learn about the cats we raise.

Do Scottish Straights have a different temperament from Scottish Folds?

Yelena does not see a consistent personality difference based on ear type in her cats. Both can be affectionate, playful and interested in people. We assess each kitten individually rather than predict their personality from upright or folded ears.

Can a Scottish Straight develop arthritis?

Yes. No cat can be guaranteed never to develop arthritis. Absence of the Fold-associated genetic variant is different from immunity to all joint disease. Ask about relevant genetic information and keep up with routine veterinary care.

Are PrettyFold’s Scottish Straights longhaired?

Our current Scottish program focuses on longhaired cats. Each kitten’s profile lists their breed and coat details alongside photographs. Browse the current listings to see which kittens or upcoming litters are available.

Do longhaired Scottish Straights need grooming?

Yes. A soft coat still needs regular checks and gentle combing to remove loose hair and prevent tangles. Grooming needs vary with the individual coat and shedding. We will share care guidance to help you establish a comfortable routine.

Can I join a waitlist for a Scottish Straight?

Contact us about upcoming litters and current waitlist options. Tell us that you are interested in a Scottish Straight, along with any preferences about color or timing. We will explain the terms and what can be confirmed before you proceed.

Sammy is a very nice addition to our family and everybody loves him! He is very playful and loving. We always want to hug him and give him kisses. Our older cat adores him and they are always playing together. I just want to say a big thank you to the breeder for bringing this kitten into our lives.
