THE PRETTYFOLD STORY

Our British Shorthair Story

Our interest in British Shorthairs began at a cat show. Their full cheeks, dense plush coats and composed presence immediately caught Yelena’s attention—and inspired her to develop a British Shorthair program at PrettyFold.

She searched for breeding cats with the rounded features, sturdy build and coat quality she admired, eventually bringing cats from Germany and France into her Staten Island home.

This is a new chapter for PrettyFold. Our first British Shorthair kittens are still expected, and we look forward to sharing their progress as the program grows.

LOOKS & COAT

British Shorthair Looks & Coat

British Shorthairs are known for their rounded faces, full cheeks and dense, short coats. At PrettyFold, Yelena was especially drawn to their plush texture and substantial appearance.

Cinnamon is a particular focus of our developing program. Wabisabi’s Xinnabon, our cinnamon British Shorthair male, is featured below, and our current upcoming litter is listed as cinnamon.

Other colors may become part of future breeding plans. Please check individual litter and kitten profiles for confirmed details rather than assuming that every color is currently available.

LIFE WITH THIS BREED

Life with a British Shorthair

In Yelena’s home, the British Shorthairs are affectionate, composed and playful without being constantly on the go. Her cats enjoy human company, get along with the other cats and are comfortable spending some time independently.

They may appeal to people who enjoy a companion that shares everyday life at a relaxed pace. Yelena’s own British Shorthairs enjoy being held, but every cat has individual preferences—lap time and cuddles should always be on the cat’s terms.

Tell us about your household, routine and expectations. We can discuss what we observe in our cats and, as kittens develop, help you consider an individual companion rather than choose on appearance alone.

RAISED AT HOME

Growing Up at PrettyFold

Our kittens are raised at home with close attention to their daily development. In their early weeks, they stay with their mother while Yelena checks their progress, weighs them and gently handles them.

As they grow and become more mobile, they spend increasing time around the family, experiencing everyday household activity, play and familiar sounds such as the television and vacuum cleaner.

We introduce new experiences gradually and respect each kitten’s pace. Before they leave, we share guidance to help their new family continue that transition at home.

CARE & HEALTH

Caring for Your British Shorthair

A plush coat is only one part of caring for a British Shorthair. Regular grooming, play, appropriate nutrition and routine veterinary care all belong in your kitten’s everyday life.

Coat & Everyday Care

Plan for regular gentle brushing or combing, with extra attention during shedding. Check how your cat’s coat responds and adjust the routine to remove loose hair and keep grooming comfortable.

Introduce grooming, nail care and handling gradually while your kitten is young. Our Kitten Care Guide explains the essentials to prepare before bringing your kitten home.

Genetic Testing & Health Information

PrettyFold uses Wisdom Panel genetic testing for breeding cats as part of its breeding decisions. Ask us about the available parent reports and the findings relevant to the litter you are considering.

Genetic screening provides information about the variants tested; it does not rule out every inherited condition or replace veterinary examinations. Purchase terms and applicable health coverage are explained in our Purchase Agreement. About Wisdom Panel testing →

Which PrettyFold Cat Is Right for You?

If you love a dense, plush short coat and rounded features, explore our British Shorthair program. If you prefer a longer, flowing coat, meet PrettyFold’s Scottish Fold and Scottish Straight cats.

Our Scottish cats share the same home-raised approach, with folded ears in Scottish Folds and upright ears in Scottish Straights. Their breed pages explain their appearance, care and important health considerations.

Yelena finds her British Shorthairs more composed and her Scottish cats more exuberant, but individual personalities vary. Tell us what kind of companionship you are looking for so we can discuss your options.

QUESTIONS & EXPERIENCES

British Shorthair Questions, Answered

Are British Shorthair kittens available at PrettyFold now?

Our first British Shorthair litter is currently expected, and the waitlist is open. The upcoming litter profile contains the current information. Individual kitten profiles will be added as they become available.

Do you expect cinnamon British Shorthair kittens?

Our current upcoming British Shorthair litter is listed as cinnamon, and cinnamon is a particular focus of our program. Contact us about the litter and waitlist. Individual kitten details will be confirmed after birth and updated on their profiles.

Are your British Shorthairs affectionate?

Yelena describes her adult British Shorthairs as affectionate, calm and people-oriented. Her cats enjoy company and being held, but this is not a promise that every kitten will become a lap cat. We encourage families to consider each kitten’s developing personality and respect their preferences.

Can a British Shorthair suit a family with children or other pets?

Tell us about your children, existing pets and household routine so we can discuss suitability. Calm handling, supervision and gradual introductions are important. We cannot promise that a kitten will immediately feel comfortable with every person or animal.

What genetic testing do you use?

PrettyFold uses Wisdom Panel genetic testing for breeding cats. You can ask about available parent reports and relevant findings before reserving. Testing covers specific genetic variants and does not guarantee freedom from every disease.

How do I join the British Shorthair waitlist?

Complete the adoption application and mention the British Shorthair litter. We will confirm current waitlist availability and explain the deposit and reservation terms before you proceed. Joining a waitlist does not mean that a kitten is already born or ready to leave.
