THE PRETTYFOLD STORY
Our Scottish Fold Story
Yelena’s interest in Scottish cats became a personal passion in 2019, when she met a friend’s Scottish Fold kitten. The expressive face and affectionate nature inspired her to research breeding lines and begin building her own program.
At PrettyFold, she has focused on longhaired Scottish cats with rounded features, large expressive eyes and a variety of colors and white patterns. She especially loves the owl-like expression that makes each Fold’s face so distinctive.
Scottish Folds and Scottish Straights are both part of this program. They share the same home environment and individual attention, while their ear type and associated health considerations are important differences to understand.
LOOKS & COAT
Scottish Fold Looks & Coat
PrettyFold’s Scottish cats are longhaired, with soft, flowing coats. Scottish Folds have ears that fold forward and downward, giving their rounded faces a distinctive outline.
Our Scottish program has produced kittens in a range of colors and patterns, including blue and white, red and white, cream and white, tortoiseshell and calico. Bicolor, harlequin and van patterns—with varying amounts of white—are a particular part of Yelena’s breeding interests.
Colors, eye color and markings vary between kittens. Explore individual profiles for confirmed details and photographs rather than assuming that every combination is available in each litter.
LIFE WITH THIS BREED
Life with a Scottish Fold
Yelena describes her Scottish cats as affectionate companions who enjoy following her around the home, joining her on the sofa and taking part in everyday family life. Some are especially vocal, while others express themselves through purring, play and quiet company.
In her experience, they enjoy interactive play without needing constant activity. These are observations about PrettyFold’s cats, rather than a guarantee of how every kitten will behave.
A Scottish Fold may appeal to someone who values close companionship and is prepared for longhair grooming and informed veterinary care. Tell us about your household and expectations so we can discuss the individual kitten, including their developing personality and health considerations.
RAISED AT HOME
Growing Up at PrettyFold
Our kittens are raised at home with close attention to their daily development. In their early weeks, they stay with their mother while Yelena checks their progress, weighs them and gently handles them.
As they grow and become more mobile, they spend increasing time around the family, experiencing everyday household activity, play and familiar sounds such as the television and vacuum cleaner.
We introduce new experiences gradually and respect each kitten’s pace. Before they leave, we share guidance to help their new family continue that transition at home.

CARE & HEALTH
Caring for Your Scottish Fold
Caring for a Scottish Fold means looking beyond their distinctive ears. Alongside coat care and everyday enrichment, families should understand the genetic variant associated with the folded-ear trait and discuss its implications with their veterinarian.
Coat & Everyday Care
Build a gentle, regular combing routine to remove loose hair and check for tangles, especially behind the ears, under the legs and around the hindquarters. Adjust grooming to your cat’s coat and shedding rather than relying on a fixed schedule.
Introduce handling gradually and keep sessions comfortable. Check ears for changes, but avoid unnecessary cleaning or using products without appropriate guidance. Our Kitten Care Guide covers preparation and everyday care.
Genetic Testing & Health Information
The folded-ear trait is associated with a variant in the TRPV4 gene that also affects cartilage and bone. Cats with one copy can develop related joint problems; two copies are associated with more severe effects.
We use Fold-to-Straight pairings and genetic testing of breeding cats, with parent test copies provided to buyers. These practices do not eliminate the health risks associated with the Fold variant. Ask about the relevant reports and discuss long-term care with your veterinarian.

Which PrettyFold Cat Is Right for You?
Love the longhaired Scottish appearance but prefer upright ears? Explore our Scottish Straight cats, which are part of the same PrettyFold program. The difference involves the Fold-associated genetic variant as well as ear appearance, so take time to read the health information on both pages.
For a dense, plush short coat, meet our British Shorthairs. Yelena finds her Scottish cats more exuberant and her British Shorthairs more composed, although individual personalities vary.
Choosing a companion means considering coat care, health and everyday compatibility alongside appearance. We welcome questions about which individual kitten may suit your home.

QUESTIONS & EXPERIENCES
Scottish Fold Questions, Answered
Are all PrettyFold Scottish Folds longhaired?
Yelena’s current Scottish program focuses on longhaired cats. Check each kitten’s profile for their listed breed, coat, color and current status. Availability depends on the kittens and litters shown on the website.
What is the difference between a Scottish Fold and a Scottish Straight?
Scottish Folds have folded ears, while Scottish Straights have upright ears. At PrettyFold, both belong to the same Scottish program and share the same home-raised approach. The Fold-associated genetic variant also has health implications, so the distinction is more than cosmetic.
Does Fold-to-Straight breeding remove the risk of joint disease?
No. When the parents’ relevant genotypes are confirmed, this pairing avoids producing kittens with two copies of the Fold variant. However, a Scottish Fold with one copy can still develop cartilage, bone and joint problems. Genetic testing identifies the tested variant; it does not guarantee lifelong joint health.
Are Scottish Folds always lap cats?
Yelena’s Scottish cats often enjoy close contact, purring and joining people on the sofa. Each cat has individual preferences, however, and some enjoy being nearby more than being held. We can discuss what we observe in a particular kitten as they develop.
Which colors are available at PrettyFold?
Our Scottish program includes a variety of colors and patterns, often with white. Previous kittens have included blue and white, red and white, cream and white, tortoiseshell and calico. Individual profiles show the confirmed details of current kittens.
How do I reserve a Scottish Fold kitten?
Browse the available kitten profiles and complete the adoption application. We will discuss availability, reservation terms and relevant health information before you proceed. If you are planning ahead, ask about upcoming litters and waitlist options.
